This programme was established since 2004 to support the achievement of sustainable economic development in ASEAN countries, where the problems of natural disasters and unsustainable geo-resources management have been such serious obstacles for sustainable development.
The objectives of the programme are:
- to develop academic and professional skills in implementing/ developing the knowledge and concepts for sustainable geo-resources management (related to water resources, mineral resources and also energy resources), as well as for geo-disaster mitigation such as by mapping of hazard, resources and risk;
- make an analysis and management of risk;
- carry out field/ site investigation and monitoring; as well as developments of early warning system and appropriate technology for disaster prevention/ hazard control.
The master programme is conducted for two years with the total credits of 40 units, through lectures, case studies, field and laboratory works, including the last 8 months of the project-based thesis works.
This programme provides an opportunity for young academic staffs/ researchers and fresh university graduates to be exposed to the real problems of geo-resources management and disaster management in the field and community, thus providing an environment for the improvement of skills for creative and innovative problem solving.
Graduates of this programme have successfully dedicated their knowledge and skills to various universities, research and government institutions; and also multi-national industries in Asia.

This academic programme is designed for the capacity development of fresh university graduates with relevant disciplines and for staff of institutions dealing with geo-resources management and geo-disaster mitigation, through master and doctoral studies.
